Senior Carers Respite Program
The Commonwealth States and Territories Disability Agreement (CSTDA) fund this project under the Ageing Parent Carers Initiative. In consultation with applicable carers currently accessing Tweed Valley Respite Services Inc, the name Senior Carers Respite Program was developed.
Senior Carers have played a significant role in our communities and this program acknowledges the valuable contributions of Carers, caring for a person with a long term disability in the Tweed Shire.
This initiative aims to increase access to respite, support and education for older people who are caring for a person with a disability
Eligibility for Program
- Carers aged over 70 years are eligible for up to 4 weeks support in each year.
- Carers aged between 65 & 69 are eligible for 2 weeks support each year, in particular those Carers who need to spend time in hospital.
- Indigenous Carers over the age of 45 are eligible for up to 4 weeks support each year.
Respite can be taken in a number of ways - weekly, fortnightly, monthly, in small blocks of time etc.
We envisage that this program will encompass fundamental elements to enhance the role of senior people caring for a person with a disability including:
- Respite
- Developing support networks
- Independent living skills
- Programs for the care recipient
- Referrals
- Information & education
- Other applicable suggestions made by carers
Tweed Valley Respite Services Inc is dedicated to delivering a quality service that is flexible in meeting the individual needs of each family.
